DESCRIPTION:Over the last two decades, spectacular advances have been made in our effort to map the sky, in depth, area, and resolution, and by using a variety of observational tools. This has led to fundamental discoveries such as dark matter and the fact that the Universe is accelerating, both of which we don\'t really know how to explain. We have also learnt that the Universe started off in a very simple initial state, for which we may have an explanation, but are not quite certain. The formation of structure in the Universe is a beautiful and complex process that we can not only observe, but—quite remarkably—also study in great detail on large supercomputers. The purpose of this talk is to put all of this together and provide a simple picture of the current state of knowledge of the Universe.
